Curriculum Intent

At Hartsholme Academy, our intention is to develop well-grounded and inquisitive children who are able to make sense of the world around them and be pioneers of their own future, independently striving for happiness and success. Our pupils  in our school will have a depth of understanding in all areas of the curriculum, being able to draw on their experiences and skills to guide them through the next stage of their educational journey and beyond. The importance of vocabulary is crucial to any child’s development and at Hartsholme we give children a breadth of vocabulary, along with the confidence to understand and use this to enable them to converse and write more freely.

Our values in our school underpin the whole of our curriculum :

Ambitious Resilient  Respectful
By teaching children to be ambitious, we will ensure that they have the necessary drive and passion to become independent learners, giving them a sense of fulfilment and the opportunity to become aspirational.

At Hartsholme, we value the importance of careers and provide children with the opportunities to engage and experience a range of different career related opportunities.  We  believe that every child should be nurtured and empowered to feel a sense of pride and to strive for success in every step of their life.

We believe that it is important for children to become emotionally intelligent in order to self-regulate and learn to manage their own feelings. One crucial value that will aid children in becoming more emotionally aware is resilience.

At Hartsholme we teach children how to be resilient, both in and outside of the classroom. Through teaching children how to be resilient, they will develop the perseverance and patience to see that mistakes are proof that they are learning, enabling them to feel a sense of achievement.

Teaching children to be respectful helps them to develop their empathy skills, enables them to show tolerance towards others and helps them to recognise and understand the differences in others and shows an acceptance that we don’t all think and feel in the same way.

At Hartsholme, our curriculum has been designed to educate our children on the importance of respect and this has been carefully weaved through all subjects so that this value is firmly embedded across the whole school.

As well as these core values, being a reading school,  we aim to instil a love of reading in our children as we strongly believe that this will give them the best prospects in life. Being able to read opens up doors and possibilities that spark a curiosity in children giving them the ability to ponder, analyse, evaluate and question the world around them. We pride ourselves in having a secure understanding of early reading and continually strive to ensure that no child is left behind.
